Joanna was born in Newburgh, New York, to parents John and Mary Ann Prokosch. The middle child to older sister Gina (Dentist) and younger brother Matthew (Bar Owner). Growing up in a close knit working class Italian family taught Joanna a strong work ethic and solid family values. Joanna's first exposure to the business world was through working in the family business, a Sheet Metal company, during high school and college summers.
Joanna was only the third person in her family to attend college when she graduated in 1992 from the University of Scranton with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing. After graduation, her first job was in marketing research with Information Resources and then A.C. Nielsen, both in the New York Metropolitan area. This is where she was exposed to the consumer packaged goods industry and knew that this industry was the path she would pursue for her career. After working for three years, she returned to school at the University of Michigan, receiving her MBA in 1997. While attending the Ross School of Business at Michigan, Joanna interned with Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble (P&G) the summer of 1996 on the Mr. Clean® brand. Joanna returned to P&G Cincinnati in 1997 to work full time on the Mr. Clean® brand, making her the first family member to live outside of Newburgh. Six months into her life at P&G, she met her now husband Arnie and after a two-year long distance courtship they became engaged and were married in 2000. Their careers took them on a three-year tour in Europe (making her the first in her family to live abroad). During this time Joanna was Brand Manager of Global Swiffer® and Mr. Clean®. After two years in this assignment, Joanna had her first child, Benjamin John in 2002. Arnie continued to work in Brussels while Joanna took ten months off with Ben. They moved back to Cincinnati in June 2003 and Joanna returned to work in July as the North American Brand Manager of Bounce. In March of 2004 Joanna had her second child, Claire Addison. She took four months of maternity leave and Arnie took three months of paternity leave, facilitating Joanna's return to her position with Bounce®. In September 2005, Arnie and Joanna had their third child, Sarah Loren. Joanna took eight months off with Sarah and returned to work in April 2006, beginning her current role in Global Hair Care®. While in her role on Bounce®, after returning from having Claire, Joanna was often asked by her colleagues, "How do you do it with two children under two and a full time job?" She was asked this so often she began to track what she and Arnie did each day to make ends meet, manage the chaos and be happy. She found that she had a number of tips and timesavers that were used consistently with positive results; so she began to write them down. In sharing her ideas and concepts with her peers and mentors, they encouraged her to pass on her experiences with others. On her third maternity leave with Sarah, she wrote the book, Millennium Mom.
Joanna's hope is that Millennium Mom the book will save women a few minutes each day so they can feel less stressed, more fulfilled and can enjoy life with their families as she does her own family.
